Sports Themed Bar Mitzvah With DIY Touches

The Ackerman family celebrated Alex’s Bar Mitzvah on April 27, 2013 at The Jewish Center in Princeton, New Jersey.  Dinner and dancing followed that evening at the Greenacres Country Club in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Alex is a sports fan but this was not your typical sports themed party. Thanks to creative Mom Andi’s DIY touches and the Princeton University Band greeting guests, this party scored on every level.

The invitation suite, in classic navy and white, was from Fran Amir of Exclusively For You.. Alex on a stamp from Zazzle.com

The Ackerman family looked great. Mom Andi’s silver cocktail dress was from Saks Fifth Avenue. Little brother Jacob, Dad Brad and Bar Mitzvah boy Alex were all wearing suits with blue ties from Schweon’s Clothing

Guests were greeted by the Princeton University Band. They played as guests drove up…

…and created excitement right from the start!

Mom Andi is so creative. She did much of the decor herself. These personalized bobble head place cards featured a picture of each guest!

Showcasing Alex’s favorite sports teams were these centerpieces made with supplies from Michael’s Craft stores

An ardent Philadelphia Flyer’s fan, this centerpiece celebrates Alex’s favorite hockey team

Mom Andi  put together the out-of-towner boxes which held snacks and water bottle labels. Stickers from Zazzle.com were placed over black duct tape

Each table number had a different photo of Alex and corresponding age. Mom Andie covered glass cylinders in transparent paper with pictures printed from the computer

MC Leon and the All Around Entertainment dancers kept everyone on the dance floor

Advice from Mom Andi:

“Start planning early and get organized. I created an ongoing album with photos and Websites of images of things I liked. So when I was ready to place the orders, everything from kippots to napkins, I had the numbers and Websites on hand.”
