The Martin family of Dix Hills, New York, celebrated daughter Rachel’s Bat Mitzvah at Temple Beth Torah in Melville, New York. There was a party in her honor at the K Lounge at Temple Avodah in Oceanside, New York.
Rachel wanted a party with just close family and friends. It was a true “kids party” that included family and adult friends who are close to Rachel. It was intimate and “outRACHous” with all familiar faces to help celebrate Rachel becoming a Bat Mitzvah.

Alexa of Invite Me Invitations worked with the family on the chevron blue and silver invitation. Rachel’s name was in die-cut lettering mounted on silver backing
The Martin family looked great for the service at Temple Beth Torah as well as for the party. Mom’s service dress was from Emily Sky Fashions. Bat Mitzvah girl Rachel borrowed her Chelsea Blake dress from a family friend. Dad Michael’s suit was from Bloomingdales and Sam’s suit from Nordstrom.
For the celebration, Mom Nancy wore a cocktail dress from Mieka Boutique and Bat Mitzvah girl Rachel’s beautiful shiny chevron blue cocktail dress was from It’s Simply for You.
“That’s outRACHous” was the perfect theme for Rachel because it celebrated all of her interests. Rachel was ready to get the party started
Danielle of Party Excellence created the seating chart used for the adult guests. Neon-colored cocktail napkins with Rachel’s logo were used for the adult seating chart table
The entire K Lounge at Temple Avodah had a club feel and looked “outRACHous,” thanks to Danielle of Party Excellence. The decor and centerpieces were a chevron blue, green, yellow and pink color palette. The centerpieces were bright and colorful and photos of Rachel decorated the ballroom walls.

Rachel’s Mitzvah project was helping the North Shore Animal League in Port Washington, New York. Rachel loves animals, so with a close friend Madison, the girls started collecting items such as blankets, dog and cat treats and toys, newspapers, brushes to help the animals in the North Shore Animal League stay comfortable while waiting to get adopted.

Beautiful Blooms created a Construction themed Bar Mitzvah.
Cranes, Bobcats, ladders, hard hats and safety glasses were all part of the decor, along with clever custom centerpieces that only a real contractor would use!
They took the hard edges of the machinery and softened everything with luxurious mixes of yellow and orange flowers.

Brad Austin Florals located in Hollywood, California, worked on the decor for a Bat Mitzvah girl with the initials J.C.; a perfect match for her Juicy Couture theme!
The party took place at the W Hotel and we love how they took the logo, the colors and Hollywood location and ran with it!
The party coordinator was Evie Steinberg of Be Our Guest and the photography was by Michael Brannigan of David Michael Photography.

Guests were greeted with a red carpet entrance and a custom step and repeat backdrop. Chains of giant Juicy Couture charm bracelets hung in place of velvet ropes
Their red carpet entrance was complete with a Joan Rivers impersonator
Guests signed in with special messages for the Bat Mitzvah girl on a pink rhinestone studded dress form
The buffet decor was inspired by the Juicy Couture crest and featured four foot tall moss topiaries of the Scottie dogs with large pink crystal diamond eyes, pink rhinestone collars and monogrammed heart dog tags
The center of the ballroom was designed with a large round glossy white dance floor with a custom embossed gold monogram in the center
The adult table centerpieces were a collection of giant floral perfume bottles and floral pillows topped with crowns
The kids’ area featured lounge furniture covered in white patent leather and trees draped with giant pearls and spheres of roses overhead

Many of you might know Dr. and Mrs. Mitzvah from the blog posts they’ve written for Mitzvah Market leading up to their son Blake’s Bar Mitzvah.
Their celebration took place at Temple Beth Am of Margate, Florida, and the reception at the Double Tree by Hilton Deerfield Beach, Boca Raton, Florida.
“Best of Blake ” was their fun theme and the collaboration of wonderful vendors, including Mom Danielle’s edible chocolate favors, which made the planning experience that much more special.

Michael Lelchuk of Flash Photo and Video took portraits of the family at the temple. At the reception, Aaron Lurie of VMA Studio and Michael Lelchuk of Flash Photo and Video were on hand. The rest of the vendors they used are listed at the end of the spotlight.
The custom invitation in black, red and white was modern and elegant with a silver name plate on the front. The family worked with Joy, owner of Joy Bofshever Stationery and Invitations. The front featured a glossy “faux croc” texture

The DoubleTree by Hilton Deerfield Beach-Boca Raton was the venue and Director of Catering, Michelle Brooks, took care of everything. With the help of day-of-event planner Bianca Cirillo, of Tied With A Bow!, David Dalsimer of Dalsimer Atlas Floral and Event Decorators and Chad Everett of Galaxy Entertainment Productions, the theme, “Best of Blake,” was expertly woven into every aspect of the evening.
The Ockman family wanted to create a formal “Red Carpet” Bar Mitzvah theme to celebrate Blake’s achievements. Guests were greeted by this sign letting them know they have arrived at Blake’s Premiere!
From the minute guests walked the red carpet into the venue they were wowed by the decor of Dalsimer Atlas Floral and Events.

There was no shortage of fun at this party starting with an assortment of arcade games from Cocktail Hour Entertainment. There were glow-in-the-dark cotton candy sticks from Top Hat Entertainment and The Amazing Starbooth, a karaoke activity, provided by Scott Edelsberg of Funtastic Photo favors.

The family had seen the “The Starbooth” in local malls and wanted one for the reception. It’s a karaoke booth that records the performance and is given to the guest as a party favor. It also gets uploaded to the Starbooth website

The end of night surprise was great as Blake and sister Skylar hopped on a dessert food truck, “Sweet Cravings NY,” to help owners Russ and Jana D’Agostino serve homemade sweets and ice cream creations to guests. The montage played on the side of the truck as guests mingled

Blake and friend, Brandon Rozales, chose to raise funds for children in need and were able to secure enough funds to fulfill the holiday wish lists of seven children at Jewish Adoption and Foster Care Options (JAFCO). They felt that family is the most important thing to them and they wanted to make sure that they supported an organization that helped these children maintain their Jewish identity and wanted to let the children know that they not forgotten.

Some advice from Mom Danielle:
“The best way that we survived planning a memorable event for all of our family and friends was to start planning early (2 1/2 years out) and reaching out to other parents for support and friendship. We found that support on Mitzvah Market and through the development of our successful “South Florida Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah Planning Group” on Facebook. Thanks to our careers and our ‘Bar Mitzvah planning turned hobby on steroids,’ we became known as “Dr. and Mrs. Mitzvah.” Supporting other parents and linking us all to the right vendors made our own planning stress free and a wonderful experience. Our group’s motto, ‘good luck is the result of good planning.’ We enjoyed every minute of our planning and watching our son shine in the presence of those who adore him as he reached this spiritual milestone.”

The Grunberg family of Woodbury, New York, celebrated son Brandon’s Bar Mitzvah at Woodbury Jewish Center and the reception later that evening at Cold Spring Country Club in Cold Spring, New York.
Brandon is a huge baseball fan so that was the name of the game for his Bar Mitzvah theme. The Grunberg family decided to use Brandon’s jersey number “25” to brand the party.

The invitation was created by Mom Dara, owner of Dear Friends. She pulled out all the stops to create a fabulous invitation; a wood plaque backed with a baseball image. When guests opened the custom black box it came in, they discovered the bottom was real turf and there was a pocket inside with all of the information about the weekend’s events.

On “game” day, guests were treated to a beautiful collaboration between ESP Productions and United Floral Events that included four different centerpieces with the common theme of baseball with wheatgrass. The ticket booth, provided by Simon Elliot Events, was the focal point of the entrance to the party with a vintage image of Brandon in his baseball jersey

Cold Spring Country Club created the cake, which was an exact replica of Yankee Stadium.
The fun continued during the candle lighting ceremony provided by Simon Elliot Events. A pre-recording of a baseball announcer, who sounded exactly like Bob Sheppard, announced each candle with the guests of honor. There was a huge sign of Yankees Stadium. As each candle was called, a different area of the sign would light up in lieu of actually lighting the candles on the cake. In the end, the entire board was lit up!

The bartenders, the valet company and the photographers all got in on the action, wearing lime green t-shirts and baseball hats with the famous quote from legend Yogi Berra, “It ain’t over til it’s over.” The photo booth, provided by Simon Elliot Events, had a backdrop of Yankee Stadium with Brandon’s logo on the board. Small custom photo albums held the pictures taken throughout the night. Brandon’s friends had fun with games such as Fast Ball and Pop a Shot from ESP Productions.

For my mitzvah project, I arranged a day with my friends and family to volunteer for the Miracle League. The Miracle League is a baseball league for kids with disabilities and special needs. Each person gets assigned a buddy for a game and helps them hit, field, and most importantly have fun! To help these kids lift their self esteem, they bat every inning and hit an automatic home run! Helping these children play baseball is not something that happens every day. I was very fortunate to experience being a part of the Miracle League, and it meant a lot considering my passion towards baseball. In fact, not only did 30 friends and family members join me on this heartwarming day, but my entire baseball team volunteered with me as well. In addition to volunteering, I raised $1000 dollars and donated it to the league. I will continue to donate and volunteer to this wonderful organization along with my family.
Advice from Mom Dara:
“Most people will say, hire the right people, start planning early and be organized. I agree with all of that. My biggest advice is HAVE FUN. Enjoy the entire planning process because it is such a big part of the weekend. Involve your child. Let him/her pick out pictures with you for the montage, select the songs for candle lighting, etc. Bring him/her to a few meetings regarding the décor, entertainment, catering, because the more involved they are, the more fun you will have as a family. This is a huge milestone and should be celebrated with all your friends and family. If you are excited, your vendors will be just as excited to create the most amazing day.”

Twin sisters Braelyn and Brooke Singer are seventh graders at Brady Middle School in Orange, Ohio. They have had their hair cut only four times in their lives.
Each of those four times, their mom Deb Singer, made sure that after each haircut there was a donation to the non-profit Locks of Love. This not-for-profit organization provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under the age of 21 who have experienced medical hair loss. The hairpieces are custom-fitted and are provided free-of-charge to families who need them.
This time the girls decided on their own that donating their hair was their choice as part of their Bat Mitzvah project.

MM: Can you give us details about your Mitzvah Project?
Braelyn/Brooke: We invited girls with long hair to attend our hair donation party from 12:30-3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26th at Cuts-N-Curls in Solon, Ohio. We decided this would be our Bat Mitzvah project, striving to send over 250 inches of hair to Locks of Love. We reached our goal collecting over 250 inches of hair! Girls who participated received a special headband as a thank you for their donation.
MM: Why did you decide to take on this particular project?
Braelyn/Brooke: We have been brought up to understand that while one person might not save the entire world, two can accomplish 100% more than just one! When we were just 1 year old, our first haircut was a disaster. With two crying babies, two embarrassed grandmothers, our exhausted mother vowed never to cut our hair again – and she didn’t! Until we were 5 years old when we donated 26 inches to Locks of Love who makes wigs for children recovering from cancer. In fact, to date, we have only had four haircuts in our lives – donating each time.

Braelyn/Brooke: Cuts-N-Curls donated their services that day with free haircuts to all donors.
